The Society to Preserve the Millvale Murals of Maxo Vanka

History

Volunteer-managed and operating on a small budget, The Society to Preserve the Millvale Murals of Maxo Vanka was incorporated in 1990 as an independent 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to raise awareness and educate the public about the murals and their significance to Pittsburgh’s history, and their depiction of America’s immigrant experience.

The Society is dedicated to preserving the murals for generations to come. Because of the Society’s efforts, the murals have received historical designations by the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation and the National Register of Historic Places. Additional attention has been paid through the production of the play, Gift to America, and the willingness of volunteer docents to respond to the request for tours. In addition, the Society responds to research requests as well as school tours.
