Frequently Asked Questions
When are the murals available?
Docent-led tours on Saturdays: 11:00am, 12:00noon and 1:00pm. For special arrangements, please call William Stout at 412-821-3019. Weekend masses at St. Nicholas Church are at 6:00pm on Saturday and Noon on Sunday..
Who directs the tours?
Trained and experienced docents including congregation members who have had direct contact with the Vanka family and, in some cases, witnessed the creation of the murals as children.
What’s the cost of a tour?
Tours are free. However, the Society hopes that individuals/groups understand that this is a volunteer service meant to raise awareness and appreciation of the murals and to generate support for the effort to clean, preserve and light them for the enjoyment of future generations. Donations to support the project in appreciation for the time and effort of our docents are gratefully accepted. Donate Now!
Is there parking?
Yes. It is advisable that you park in the empty lot to the left of the church on Maryland.
How long is the tour?
Tours last approximately 1 hour. Docents are happy to answer questions during and after the tour.
Can we photograph/video the murals?
Yes. If, however, you post the murals on a publicly accessible website or a blog, we hope that you will make the link back to our website to assist us in our ongoing efforts to raise awareness and support for the murals.
Is the tour suitable for children?
It is suitable for children who are capable of paying quiet attention to a docent for at least one hour and appreciate the solemnity of their setting.
