We're pleased to announce that the Society received the Chairman's Award for Demonstrated Leadership in Historic Preservation from Preservation Pennsylvania with on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014.

We're excited to be part of this long-standing tradition and proud of our selection given the themes identified by Preservation Pennsylvania's Executive Director Mindy Crawford:

"Partnerships, cooperation, and taking the long view are themes that run through many of this year's projects," said Ms Crawford. "Whether at the local, state or federal level, this year's award recipients demonstrate how people working together can make a real difference."

  • November 7th at 6:30 PM at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts (PCA), as part of exhibit "Paintings and Works on Paper, Maxo Vanka"

  • November 14th at 3PM at the site of the Social-Realist Maxo Vanka Murals: St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church, Millvale PA.

About the Vanka Hi-REZ Events
At the PCA and the St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church, audiences saw two separate performances by both a poet, Justin Hopper, and a musical duo, Action Camp, at both events. In collaboration with the church, these artists have spent time in the space where the murals reside and, with their own individual artistic processes, have created new works inspired by the murals themselves.
